Straight Outta Compton is a certified hit! Raking in $56.1 million over its debut weekend, the story of Compton rap clique N.W.A has taken the box office by storm. With Straight Outta Compton dominating headlines, the film will likely go down as one of the most successful rap biopics in history.

Though it was marketed for about a year, the Ice Cube and F. Gary Gray helmed biopic was actually nearly four years in the making. And one of the most important parts of this film was getting the right actors to portray the hip-hop revolutionaries. While Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, O'Shea Jackson Jr. and Aldridge Hodge won the roles of Dr. Dre, Eazy E, Ice Cube and MC Ren, plenty of rappers from today's hip-hop world tried out for the parts as well.

Here's a list of rappers who auditioned for the roles during the film's early stages. Imagine what the movie would've been like if these guys were on screen?

Chance The Rapper

The Chicago MC said in an interview that he auditioned for the role of Dr. Dre but in the end, it “wasn’t in God’s plan.”

The West Coast mainstay tried out for the role of MC Ren back in 2014.

Kendrick Lamar

The fellow Compton native was spotted on the film set back in February, but never ended up having a role in the feature film, just a cameo during the end credits.

Lil Eazy

The son of N.W.A leader Eazy E, Lil Eazy, tried out for the role of his father but lost out to actor Jason Mitchell. Lil Eazy did however help out Mitchell with getting into character.
