“Ferg is really trying to create a social movement in Harlem and give back to his community.” -- Yelda Ali, Founder and CEO, People of Peace.

A$AP Ferg might be known for his hyperactive, hyper-aggressive raps, but over the weekend, he was playing the good guy. The Harlem native teamed up with People of Peace and The Children's Village to put on the first annual Ferg Health Fair. The one-day event aimed to bring awareness of and access to mental and physical well-being to his community. Ferg, who famously modeled his rap name after his father's alias, had plenty to say about his dad. The "Shabba" rapper cited his pops as the inspiration behind the whole day: “Growing up, my dad always emphasized the vitality of giving back to the community and making sure we never gave up on our dreams. His encouragement motivated me to never settle and he’s the reason I am where I am today, but I’m not the only one. My dad spent his life helping kids in the community stay off the streets and make something of themselves. He may be gone but his legacy lives on through the people of our neighborhood and all the lives he touched.”  Those who attended the Fair were able to take part in a variety of activities, including DJ lessons from the Jam Master Jay Foundation and Scratch Academy. Hopefully this turns into a city staple. Ferg has promised fans that his next album will see him strike out in new directions.
