To Pimp a Butterfly

The existence of these demos, over the beats that became "No Telling" and "6 God" from Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late, have been a point of speculation among observers. Some have suggested Drake either strong-armed producers into reneging on deals made with Jace; others have pointed out that this kind of convoluted creative process is hardly uncommon in hip-hop. Today (April 27), SykSense spoke with AllHipHop about the rumors. The producer, who handled "6 God" with Boi-1da, told the outlet that Drake had the beat for months before the Two-9 member first heard it. “I don’t know why Jace put it on Twitter like that, because I was in the studio the night he did it and we had a conversation," SykSense said. "I said, ‘Don’t put it out there that Drake stole it, because he didn’t.'” He added, for emphasis, “Drake had that beat first.” The origins of the "No Telling" demo remain unclear.

Beyond the accusations that he's stolen beats for his records, it's been a rough April for Drake. His Toronto Raptors were trounced by the Washington Wizards 4 games to none in the first round of the NBA playoffs. The rapper was also reportedly unhappy with his debut performance at Coachella, which was overshadowed by the kiss Madonna planted on Drake during the set. He did, however manage to re-release If You're Reading This It's Too Late, which he dropped online back in February. Now on retail shelves, the redux includes two previously unreleased tracks. Drake will be hitting the road next month with Future in tow.
