In an interview with Hot 97, Kendrick Lamar had a simple message regarding the premature bronzing of his second studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly. He believes the record needs time before people hail it as a classic; despite holding the highest Metacritic aggregated review score in the history of the genre, it has been out for less than two weeks. In an engaging, candid interview, Kendrick also said that the making of the record involved many 15-hour sessions with producers and musicians, most of which took place in Lamar's native Los Angeles. Perhaps of greatest interest to his fans, Kendrick confirmed that the long-awaited collaborative album with J. Cole will definitely be coming out. Though no singles from the record have been released, live listening sessions for several songs, especially one called "Temptations," have been widely disseminated. The two first worked together in 2011, when Cole producer "HiiiPower" from Lamar's Section.80.

Kendrick also confirmed he was in the studio with Prince. Whether they actually recorded a record an actual record is up in the air. K.Dot says that they were pressed for time. "I didn't trip over getting a song done. I really appreciate the actual game he was giving me. He took control of his music," he said. "He was breaking down some things that I need to consider in my career."

Kendrick will be performing at Hot 97's annual Summer Jam in New York. He'll be headlining, but the stage will be packed with talent, including performances by Fabolous, Donald Glover, Ty Dolla $ign, Omarion, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Meek Mill and Big Sean. Last year's show was helmed by Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent, Nas, Wiz Khalifa, YG and Action Bronson, among others.
