Today, March 11, is the 35th birthday of New Orleans rapper and original Squad Up member Gudda Gudda.

Born Carl Lilly Jr. in San Jose, California, Gudda was raised in New Orleans and heavily influenced by Southern hip-hop. He met fellow Louisiana MC Lil Wayne as a teen and quickly became his mentee. Together the two formed the group Squad Up in the early 2000's.

Gudda Gudda was the first official artist on Wayne's Young Money Entertainment under Cash Money Records and dropped his first solo mixtape, Guddaville, in 2009. The tape featured guest spots from nearly everyone on Young Money from Nicki Minaj and Drake to Tity Boi (now known as 2 Chainz) and Wayne himself. Gudda was also featured on the Young Money compilation album, We Are Young Money (2009), Rich Gang (2013) and Young Money: Rise of an Empire (2014).

Following the release of Guddaville, Gudda has expanded his scope of artist collabs to the likes of Kevin Gates, Kendrick Lamar and Trae the Truth, but sporadically put out work. Since 2009, he's dropped a total of four tapes, his last release being Redrum in March 2013. Gudda fans are still waiting for Guddaville: The Album, which the rapper announced was in the works back in 2013.

Happy Birthday, Gudda!
