After debuting in Australia in December, the official trailer for N.W.A's biopic, Straight Outta Compton, has finally dropped and from the looks of it, this movie is going to be dope.

The opening minute of the trailer focuses on Ice Cube and Dr. Dre as they ride down Compton Boulevard. The two West Coast rappers reminisce on their beginnings in hip-hop, discussing their motivation to make music and why they felt it was important.

"Our music was like our weapon," says Cube. "And that's the most powerful weapon we got," added Dr. Dre as the former N.W.A rappers talk about what their music meant to them. The rap moguls reflect on the message in their rough, gritty rhymes, calling it "non-violent protest" as they tried to bring about social change.

"We let people know that it's okay to say what you want to say," explained Dre. "It's crazy to see how all these different people around the world feel the same way we feel. We kicked the door down for mad artists."

The black and white opening continues to follow Cube and Dre as the two stop at some local spots. They link up with The Game and Kendrick Lamar who also offer their two cents on N.W.A's influence. "It was more like a real lifestyle. Brothers from my neighborhood that made it out," said Kendrick.

Straight Outta Compton has come at the perfect time after the recent murders of Eric Garner and Mike Brown. As Ice Cube explained, the "same thing [they] was going through in the '80s with the police, people still going through right now." The biopic will hopefully resonate with other musicians as the country continues the fight for social change.

The remaining two minutes of the trailer build even more anticipation for the upcoming biopic. For one, the cast actually looks like the former N.W.A members. We see rough beginnings and how that lead to their eventual success. The upcoming N.W.A biopic, directed by F. Gary Gray, will focus on the rise and fall of the Compton rap group and is set to release Aug. 14 of this year. Check out the trailer above. In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country.  When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation.  Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.

Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job).  The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright.  Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.
