California's Iamsu! has decided to drop off his latest project, a mixtape called Eyes On Me. The free 6-track offering is prototypically Bay Area, with its commitment to the bounce that broke the region nationally. In fact, it's this tape that helps DJ Mustard's ratchet sound come full circle, being utilized in the city from which he borrowed to create the style that would ultimately change the soundscape of Los Angeles. His contribution here, "Nothin' Less," is a highlight, muted yet club-ready. For his part, Iamsu! handles production duties on two songs, closer "Let Her Know" and the stellar Tyga duet "Hella Good." On the latter, the rappers debate the relative wisdom of telling girls their real names versus their aliases and spending excessively on vanity plates.

Eyes On Me is refreshingly lean; what it lacks in narrative structure it more than makes up for by sticking to its strengths. When Iamsu! says he's been touching racks since he was 16, he doesn't obscure it with hand-wringing or moralizing. This is music for the latter half of house parties, for when people have started to filter out and only the realest and/or most suspect remain. Iamsu! is happy to cater to both.
