Lena Dunham is not a cultural anthropologist. The Girls creator and star was in Utah over the weekend, attending the Sundance Film Festival and, apparently, people-watching. Like any fan might do, Dunham kept a running tally of the famous people she spotted over the course of the event. She landed herself in some hot water, however, when she posted this list to Instagram:

 

It seems innocuous, even endearing, for someone of Dunham's celebrity to be so excited about meeting movie stars and musicians. The problem, then, is that the person she saw wasn't Lil Wayne--who was nowhere near Utah at the time. It was Lil Jon, in town to play with Diplo at Billboard's Winterfest concert series. Wayne/Jon was one of only two Black men on Dunham's list, along with Spike Lee.

Commenters alerted Dunham to the gaffe, which she dismissed with a joke, before offering a more thorough explanation of the mix-up, along with an anecdote about meeting Jon during a voter-turnout campaign:
