The joint LP between Royce Da 5'9" and DJ Premier, collectively known as PRhyme, is finally in stores today, and the duo took to Santos Party House in Manhattan last night to celebrate the album's release. For much of the crowd it was a rare opportunity to see this duo in action—the duo's recent Boiler Room set was a closed, invite-only affair—yet for Nickel and Preem it seemed like the culmination of years of erstwhile collaborations.

Adrian Younge kicked off the evening with a DJ set full of old-school soul and R&B classics as artists such as Bilal, Statik Selektah, Craig G and more rumored around the room. It was nearly 11 pm then when Primo and Royce took the stage, and they wasted little time ripping through the album's title track, "PRhyme." They didn't play the entire album, but they didn't have to, with cuts like "Courtesy" and "You Should Know" anchoring the beginning of the set as well as the old school Premier-Royce collab track "Hip Hop."

Royce in particular seemed to relish the moment; he stopped at one point to celebrate his sobriety of two years, saying towards the end of the performance, "I'm more focused than ever. I'm sober. And all I wanna do is kill rappers."

But he also showed deference to a pair of NYC OGs, inviting Jadakiss and Styles P to the stage for Jada's "We Gonna Make It" before bringing out his Slaughterhouse colleagues—Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I—to the stage for Slaughter's "Hammer Dance" and PRhyme's "Microphone Preem." Premier himself got in on the fun, rapping and talking shit into his microphone as Royce unleashed the full breadth of his lyrical dexterity.

For a first show, PRhyme seemingly did everything right, with a tight, focused delivery and all-star guests that enhanced rather than took away from the performance. Royce hinted at a tour in the works as well, so if that's on the cards it will be a can't-miss performance for every city on the agenda.
