Iconic singer Erykah Badu is fulfilling one of her dreams by taking the New York City streets by storm and gracing them with her music. Despite selling out shows around the world, Badu has always wanted to know what it felt like to make money by selling art on the street; in this case, art being her voice.

Or at least that's what she's saying in a new video project she posted today. The project is part of an iPhone film the artist is putting together with the help of her key grip, Carl Jones. Badu stood in Times Square recently, singing for tourists and residents alike at the corner of 42nd Street as a sort of social experiment. While many pedestrians easily walked past her without realizing who she was, Badu was able to gather enough money for a little something to nibble on—about $4 or so.
