A3C is one of the premiere festivals in Atlanta featuring over 500 performances from some of hip-hop’s most promising and respected artists from all over. XXL is on the ground to give day-to-day recaps of what’s going down during their 10-year celebration.

With the weekend approaching, A3C took the festival experience to an even higher level on Friday (Oct. 10) with a combination of old school meets new school hip-hop. From panels on emerging producers to film screenings, attendees were exposed to more than just the artist side of the music industry. With all that’s occurring on the festival grounds, XXL is still out here in Atlanta giving you the day-to-day recaps of the 10-year celebration of A3C.—Asia Burris

Heineken Live Art Pyramid

In collaboration with ABV Gallery, A3C brought the Heineken Live Art Pyramid to their festival grounds. Located directly next to the Main Stage, visual artists and muralists from all over the nation were drawn in to create paintings and graffiti art alongside the 12 massive art deco walls. Today featured visual graffiti artist and tattooist Paper Frank, alongside others. The pyramid will be open to the public for the remainder of the festival in Old 4th Ward. Be sure to stop by, grab a brew, and enjoy some creativity.

Nas: Time Is Illmatic Screening

Although Nas’ highly-anticipated Time Is Illmatic film has already hit theaters across the country, A3C held a private panel for a screening of the new movie in their Artist Center. I personally had not yet watched the film in full, but it does undoubtedly honor 20 years of one of the most notable albums in hip-hop history. A room full of curators, musicians, and media tastemakers watched as Time Is Illmatic told the backstory of the rap legend’s early life which led to his booming success in the competitive music industry of the 1990s. Hip-hop fan or not, this is a film that every music connoisseur should view.

Missouri Holds Their Own Showcase

Not too many of today’s artists are branching out from the state of Missouri, but the ones who are making noise for the world to hear have continued to build a consistent name for themselves. The “Comin’ Outta Missouri” showcase featured emerging lyricist Gee Watts, who’s collaborated with Kendrick Lamar in the past, alongside The Bodega Brovas, Ciej, INDIANA ROME, and more. From watching the vibes throughout this event and with all of the new music hitting the air waves today, who’s to say that Kansas City, St. Louis, or Springfield won’t be the next city to put Missouri on the map?

Girls Love Hip Hop

Listed as one of the Top 20 Most Popular A3C Events for this year, Queen Bobbi and Jessica Vickery’s “Girls Love Hip Hop” stage featured a mix of sounds from Que, Maino, Trae The Truth, and many more. Even with all male performers, this event was orchestrated by all women. In an mostly masculine culture, it's dope to see women in hip-hop curating some of today's most talented A-listers and emerging rappers. Bow down.

BET Music Matters

The featured event of the evening went to the BET Music Matters showcase, which took place on the Main Stage in Old 4th Ward. G-Unit’s Kidd Kidd, Kevin Gates, RETRO, and more shared opening acts as they prepped the crowd for southern legends Nappy Roots, Mystikal, and Juvenile. Vigorous lyricist Mystikal took us back to “Shake It Fast,” and “Danger,” while Juvi turned the crowd up with “Set It Off,” “Bounce Back,” and “Back That Azz Up.” Old school meets new school here and it created a favorable moment to remember in A3C history.
