Cher Is On Wu-Tang Clan’s Secret Album ‘The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’
Did Cher and the RZA connect?
The singer's representative has confirmed that she appears on the one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang album to Rolling Stone. The 67-year-old Oscar winner appears on two songs for the The Wu - Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. Her rep explains "She recorded her parts separately, so I don't believe there was direct interaction."
Forbes recently posted a video that allows fans to hear a bit of the results of the collab. The album's producer, Tarik "Cilvaringz" Azzougarh, played a snippet that had Ghostface Killah rhyming over a classic sounding Wu beat that ends with the unmistakable voice of Cher singing "Wu-Tang, baby. They rock the world."
The RZA has been speaking at length about his vision for the project and the idea of selling the one of one album to the highest bidder. He believes the unique approach can help reshape the value of music. The 31-track album will come in a handcrafted case made from nickel silver with the embossed Wu-Tang logo carved into it.
"We're about to sell an album like nobody else sold it before," the RZA explained to Forbes. "We're about to put out a piece of art like nobody else has done in the history of [modern] music. We're making a single-sale collector's item. This is like somebody having the scepter of an Egyptian king."
Things between the Wu-Tang leader and fellow Wu founder Raekwon maybe a bit cold these days. Rae's recent comments about The Abbott's beats and business practices may keep Th Chef from appearing on A Better Tomorrow, the group's forthcoming studio.
