He'd hinted that he'd been working on a followup to Yeezus, but a statement released by Live Nation Australasia early this morning (April 1) that Kanye West was officially in the final stages of his new album, his seventh solo studio set.
"Due to unexpected timing requirements to finish his highly anticipated new studio album, scheduled for a 2014 release, Kanye West regretfully announces the postponement of his upcoming tour dates in Australia," said a statement released by the company. Billboard, interestingly, confirmed with Live Nation reps that the release was not actually an April Fool's joke.
Kanye's Australian dates were initially planned for early May, but have since been pushed back until Sept. 5 until Sept. 15; Billboard also notes that people have been speculating the dates were actually pushed back to accommodate Kanye's wedding to Kim Kardashian, though that's merely guesswork.
Last December, Kanye spoke at Art Basel in Miami, where he revealed a few clues about what his next venture would include. “I think my next album is going to be eight songs,” he said at the time. ”It’s just reducing down the amount of information that you need. People say a design is the point where you can’t take anything else away. [Yeezus] was very, very designed. I took a departure from radio and popular music in order to get this seat here. If I hadn’t made Yeezus, I wouldn’t be sitting here with this cool font at Basel right here."
It's hard to speculate on anything else at this point, but Kanye seems to know that people have been clamoring for more: his verse on Rick Ross' "Sanctified" included the line, "People sayin', 'Ye we need another Yeezus.'" It's prediction time now. What will Yeezy have up his sleeve this time?
