Seattle MC Macklemore has never been shy about using his fame to bring awareness to social and political issues, and he did so again at last night's American Music Awards.

During his acceptance speech for favorite rap album, Macklemore, who was calling in from Miami, Fla. via satellite,  referenced Trayvon Martin, who died tragically last year from a gunshot wound. He said, "Due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award, I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids each year that are dying due to racial profiling and the violence that follows it." He also went on to quote Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in saying, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

Along with his partner Ryan Lewis, Macklemore was nominated for six AMA awards.
