On September 16, Young Money president and rapper Mack Maine—real name Jermaine Preyan—was formally charged with sexual battery charges, stemming from an August 22 incident in Oklahoma City while on tour with Lil Wayne's America's Most Wanted festival. According to the court documents, Maine invited two women onto his tour bus where he allegedly put his hand down one of the women's shirt and fondled her right breast without her consent. When the two women tried to leave the tour bus, Maine reportedly held the door shut, and punched the second woman so hard in her face that he broke her jaw.

Although Maine's case is pending, he is sadly not the first rapper to be involved in a sexual assault case. In recent months, rape and hip-hop have come to the forefront due to Rick Ross' controversial lyrics on Rocko's "U.O.E.N.O." when he rapped, "put Molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain't even know it," a lyric that critics have alleged describes a date rape. More serious than a few offending lyrics, some in hip-hop have been accused and, in some cases, convicted of rape over the years.

XXL is taking a looking back today of 9 cases in hip-hop where rappers found themselves involved with sexual assault charges.

Tupac Shakur

The Case: On November 1993, Tupac Shakur and two others in 'Pac's entourage, road manager Charles Fuller and music promoter Jacques "Haitian Jack" Agnant, were charged with sexual abuse of a female fan stemming from a November 18, 1993, incident in which the group allegedly forced the woman to have oral sex with them in a room at the Parker Meridien Hotel in New York City. While Tupac admitted to having consensual intercourse with the woman earlier in the night, Shakur proclaimed his innocence and claimed that he exited the room when the other men entered and was not aware of what happened after.
