“Okay, I arrived at SOB’s around 10:30 p.m. As I went inside I was patted down and my bag was searched as soon as I got to the door. The security is always on point when it comes to searching attendees, so the outcome of the night was a real head-scratcher for everyone. Now I lived in D.C. for a couple of years and been to a couple of Fat Trel concerts. He’s an artist I enjoy and love to see live. I sensed immediately that the place was definitely filled with tension, which I later found out was a result from a couple of fights that happened earlier on in the night. Frenchie from Bricksquad Monoply was there with some members of BSM along with Fat Trel and his crew, and everything was mellow. There were also pockets of cliques throughout the place. People we’re filming their own content in the club and bottles we’re being popped. The host did a great job with interacting with the crowd and allowed a porn star (yes, a real porn star) who was attending to twerk for the crowd.
It was getting late, and an opening act came on. I decided to charge my phone and go downstairs to the SOB’s office, which is down the hall from the artists’ lounge. It was around 11:45 p.m. when I went down. Fifteen to twenty minutes later, security comes and says, “There was a shooting in the venue.” Everyone was stunned. Then other industry people who were covering the show came down, very frantic and distraught. We asked what happened, and they described a man opening fire near the bar as others ducked to the ground and ran out. As we’re all in shock of what’s happening, the police came downstairs. I proceeded upstairs to see a gentleman with a bullet in his leg being carted out the club. The detectives then got everyone information and questioned the workers. I left at around 1 a.m. and headed home. Crazy night.”—Emmanuel C.M. (@ECM_LP)
