In the annals of pop culture, NBC’s Saturday Night Live has enjoyed one of the longest and most celebrated runs on network television in history. The long-running comedy sketch show started in 1975 roughly two years after hip-hop started peculating in the New York City underground across the five boroughs. Over the almost 40 years of the show, Saturday Night Live has taken an opportunity to cast an eye at hip-hop culture in the form of numerous musical performances, as well as, attempted to skewer many figures and moments in hip-hop history.
