Public Enemy Launching Remix Contest For BitTorrent Users
Public Enemy has teamed up with BitTorrent to give fans a chance to remix their newest single, "Get Up Stand Up" (feat. Brother Ali), with the best re-interpretation set to be officially released by the group.
By downloading the Public Enemy bundle (which you can do here), fans will receive the official version of the single, the music video, outtakes from the video shoot, and the 37 individual tracks that make up the song. The group is asking fans to take the audio and remix it in whichever way they want and then upload it directly to them. They'll then vote on which track they like the best, with the top three receiving prizes and the group's favorite getting the official release treatment.
“For many established people in the music business, there’s a fear that comes along with it," said Chuck D's manager Gary "G-Wiz" Rinaldo in a statement. "We don’t have that fear. The ability to freely share an archive and have flexibility on how it can be used is an extremely powerful tool when it comes to making music and media available.”
The deadline for submissions is July 18. For more info—and for details on the prizes for the top three winners—check here.
