Nicki Minaj Wanted to Get Lauryn Hill on New “Champion” Track

On Tuesday (April 3) Nicki Minaj stopped by the Hot 97 building to talk to radio host Funkmaster Flex about her new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, among other topics, this week. In addition to touching on her relationship with Waka Flocka Flame, the birthday kiss she got from Madonna and her thoughts on working with Nas, the Black Barbie told Flex who her favorite femcees are.

“You know I loved Lauryn, (she) was a goddess to me,” said Minaj of Lauryn Hill. “I wanted to get her on ‘Champions,’ that’d have been crazy, right?”

Nicki also spread the love to other lady lyricists including fellow New Yorkers Remy Martin and Foxy Brown. “Shout out to Remy,” said Minaj, “When the ‘Ante Up’ verse came out, if you ain’t know her, you knew her then.”

Additionally, the Queens MC paid homage to legends like MC Lyte and Queen Latifah. “I always forget to name so many people,” said Minaj as she listed her influences.
