Never one to shy away from controversy, Lil B continues to turn heads with the title of his forthcoming album, I’m Gay. While revealing the disc’s name during his performance over the weekend at Coachella, he explained that the statement doesn’t refer to his lifestyle; instead it has to do with the power – or lack thereof – of words. XXLMag.com reached out to GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, to get their opinion.
“As a lyricist, Lil B knows that words matter,” a spokesperson for the organization said. “Slurs have the power to fuel intolerance. We hope that Lil B’s album title is not just a gimmick and is really a sincere attempt to be an ally. He has the platform and the voice. We hope he uses it in a positive way.”
Earlier today (April 17), we spoke to other artists to find out their reactions to the news. Despite B’s intention (which is still not completely clear), Talib Kweli pointed out that this signifies one aspect of rap culture that is moving in the right direction. “I’m happy to see young hip-hop heads move [away from] homophobia,” he told XXL. “Regardless of what your stance is on gay people, homophobia or the act and practice of it is extra wack.” —Jesse Gissen

Does glaad realize that lil b is Batsh*t crazy and cant help any agenda?
^^^ Second that. They were talking like they thought he was a legitimate rapper who has respect from intelligent people. They even called him a lyricist. The fact that all of this is spinning from some off the cuff remark this fool said on some stage is media lunacy at its worst.
hahahaha true
xxlmag stays with the exclusive! NICKI MINAJ SEX TAPE LEAKED!! www.loot6.com
xxl mag stays with the exclusive FUCK YO EXCLUSIVE NICKI MINAJ SEX TAPE NIGGA!!!
as i get older if you want be fag then live your life but stay away from me i dont want nothing to do with them
but if you anit gay dont name yea album that .wack ass rapers just need a gimmick .
On some real ish? This is another marketing ploy…..
This is on the same level as Nas naming his album “NIGGA”. It’s done for shock value and to get the radios and talkshows involved.
I personally don’t think the album title is a good one. It’s not like a million hip-hop fans are gay and will go out in droves to purchase this CD. If anything this is alienating cats from buying this CD. Who wants to put a CD titled “Gay” next to some classic ish in their collection???? If your girl sees that CD in your collection she’s bound to think you’re hershey stickin’ it.
And on some realer ish….. F**k GLAAD. If you ask me, they are part of the same institutionalized stupidity that keeps this homophobia versus homosexual thing going. F**k them cats. And while I’m on it, AL Sharpton (for popping up only when it’s a photo op for his movement), Jesse Jackson (for getting caught on Fox news calling the first black president the “N” word), and Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glen Beck for happily lining their pockets with green at the expense of my people.
Sorry…. I went off target a little, but yall feel me.

^ truth
but Nas addressed issues with songs like “Sly Fox”, “N.I.G.G.E.R.”, “Testify”, and “Fried Chicken”. Once he changed the name you could still grasp the idea of why he wanted to name the album so…
Only in hip-hop smh. Can you imagine another music genre where an artist is so wack he has to resort to such blatant shock value to call attention to his album?
Lil B is wack. I’ve not heard one quality track from dude. Even if he is gay, this ain’t the same as Nas with the NIGGA album, cause Nas is an OG in the game who laced that record with themes that lived up to that compelling title.
I wonder what Mister Cee is thinking…
like you said it ain’t genuine, so if he draws all this attention to the album and it’s terrible, he’s done. The end result ain’t gonna justify the means.
“This is standard fare for him. And while I would not be caught dead with any of his music in my Ipod, his lack of skill does not negate the fact that he has been able to generate a
careerbuzz”^ too rappers have generated a buzz, done shows, dropped an album to never been heard from again. He will need to do more to verify he ever had a career against he was the flavor of the month.
Not sure why people are still questioning the “legitamacy” of him as an artist, he’s playing fucking Coachella with no single or album. And he explained his reasoning, 1. its just a word 2. At one point it meant “happy”.
Is it a gimmick? No. Here is why. Its no more controversial than any of his other song titles. “I think i’m Paris Hilton” “Ellen Degeneris” etc. This is standard fare for him. And while I would not be caught dead with any of his music in my Ipod, his lack of skill does not negate the fact that he has been able to generate a career in a decaying and failing industry. So he must be doing SOMETHING RIGHT.
All the undercover homo’s still trying to defend this dude…sickening
