When I reviewed Grand Theft Auto V last September, it received XXL’s highest rating. Now that it has hit the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, nothing has changed regarding Rockstar’s masterpiece. Virtually everything in that review still rings true.

The biggest difference between GTA V on the new consoles and last year's version is that developer Rockstar has done such a great job at upgrading the game that it looks like it was meant for the new platforms. Running at full 1080p resolution, the enhanced textures, lighting effects, and overall detail look stunningly good. Besides the tricked out visuals, GTA V also allows the gamer for the first time to play in a new first-person view. Thankfully, this mode works quite well as it doesn’t come across as tacked on, although there will be some things you’ll need to get used to. Driving for instance may feel a bit foreign when your start out. When you add aiming and shooting while driving to the equation it gets harder to master than ever before. Fully mastering the new challenges the first person view offers is worth it though especially when you see the game’s previously unseen details. You now see things like the full dashboard details in cars and conversations with different characters are acted out in lip sync. It’s a whole new way of experiencing Los Santos like we never have before, and it’s enticing enough to pull the heads who’ve played it on last-gen back in for another run.

The XXL Endgame

Grand Theft Auto V is brilliant on the new-gen consoles for the same reasons mentioned in our original review. If you somehow missed playing GTA V on the first go round, don’t get caught slipping again.–written by DJRhude (@DJRhude)
