Way before the release of his Nike collaborative sneakers and his current adidas deal, Chicago rapper Kanye West was in talks with the Three Stripes about designing a shoe in 2006.

According to adidas Creative Consultant, Gary Aspen, there were creative meetings held between Kanye West and adidas as both parties discussed a possible collaborative shoe on the Three Stripes’ Rod Laver Vintage court sneaker, which was revealed earlier today on the second issue of sneaker publication Crepe City. In the detailed interview, Aspen recalls 'Ye's passion for designing, "Even back then Kanye was very clear about the fact that before anything he saw himself primarily as a designer and was determined to start his own line – I remember him showing us logo ideas for ‘Pastel’."

Although the adidas x Kanye West Rod Laver Vintage court sneaker never saw the light of day, Kanye would eventually release the first pair of his Air Yeezy sneakers in 2009 under the Nike umbrella. In late 2013, 'Ye took his talents over to the Three Stripes and signed lucrative deal under the German sportswear brand, releasing the now coveted adidas x Yeezy Boost collection.
