On Wednesday of this week (July 15), Lauryn Hill was supposed to hit the stage at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire. However, in what's become something of a tradition with Ms. Hill's live performances, a major complication cropped up at the last minute. This time, it's a definitive. The rapper and singer has canceled her appearance., issuing a statement on her Facebook page:

Hello All,

I've been informed that I won't be able to enter the UK for a period of time due to my past legal situation. For this reason I have to cancel my concert on July 15th. Know that I was looking forward to performing in London this summer, and that I appreciate all of my fans and supporters both in London, and throughout the UK. I look forward to seeing you again as soon as I'm able to.

Love and Respect,
MLH

It's unclear exactly what legal red tape Hill faces with regard to UK customs law, but her checkered past with American courts is well-documented. In 2012, the former Fugees member was charged with three counts of tax evasion, for failing to pay taxes on $1.8 million worth of income in the years 2005, 2006 and 2007. Though she and her attorneys initially struck a deal with a New Jersey judge to make restitution, by April of the following year Hill had paid back only $50,000 of the $554,000 that was owed "immediately," according to the court. She was sentenced to three months in prison and was released in October of that year.
