Billboard has been venturing in to the social media realm lately. Since live streaming its award show’s red carpet with Yahoo, the chart watcher has teamed up with Twitter to provide fans much more. As of today thanks to the Billboard Twitter Real-Time Charts fans will be able to track the ranking of America’s most popular songs up to the minute based on what’s being shared on Twitter.

The new real-time charts is built to work with how users interact with music on Twitter currently monitor the Billboard Trending 140 and the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists. They measure rankings over the acceleration of an hour and are filtered to present a real-time view of the most shared track over a 24-hour period.

Fans can participate in the ranking by:

*  the use of, or the inclusion, of a link to the song via music listening platforms, such as Spotify, Vevo and iTunes.

*  the use of various track sharing notations, such as the hashtags “#nowplaying" or "#np" along with song/artist name.

*  the use of various terms associated with the song and song playing, such as "music," "song," "track," "listen."

Weekly summaries will be available on in print and on Billboard.com.
