YK Osiris’ Pitch for 2019 XXL Freshman
Before the 2019 XXL Freshman Class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th spot voting will launch on March 25, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2019 XXL Freshman cover.
Florida has been a hotbed for breakthrough rap artists in recent years and YK Osiris is putting his bid in to be next in line. However, he's an artist more on the singing tip. Straight outta Jacksonville, the 19-year-old entertainer is a double threat, with vocal chops to back up his slick braggadocios raps. Still a pup in the game, YK first started releasing music in 2017, by putting out the single "Fake Love." His "I'm Next (Freestyle)," released in January of 2018, really made people take notice and swept up 11 million views on YouTube.
From there, things have been on an upward trajectory. YK’s March 2018 single “Valentine” garnered 36 million streams on YouTube and yielded a remix featuring Lil Uzi Vert. Def Jam took notice and signed the up-and-comer to a deal in May of last year. The Floridian is showing no signs of slowing down as he preps the release of his Only for the Ladies EP. His latest single “Worth It” debuted at No. 87 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in February and he is showcased on Def Jam’s new Undisputed compilation. It's only a matter of time until he has his day in the sun.
Now that you've heard his pitch, remember to vote for your favorite artist beginning March 25. The 2019 XXL Freshman 10th Spot will run for one week. This is where the public gets the chance to vote an artist into the XXL Freshman Class. Go here to make your vote count for your favorite artist.
