Before the 2019 XXL Freshman class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th Spot voting has officially launched, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2019 XXL Freshman cover.

Mir Fontane has that New Jersey drive. Recently, he’s been seeing nothing but green lights. The 25-year-old Camden native first caught a buzz back in 2014 when he released the mixtape He So Crazy, a concept project based on the popular 1990s sitcom Martin that showcased his affinity for narrative nuances, comedic tone and use of melodious vibes. He followed up in 2016 with the mixtape Who's Watching the Kids, which featured the standout track “Down by the River” that garnered nearly 2 million spins on SoundCloud.

Fontane music’s wooed the heads at 300 Entertainment, who signed him to the label in January 2017. Six months later he released the Camden mixtape, an ode to his rough and tumble hometown, spearheaded by the buzz-worthy single “Frank Ocean.” Last year saw Mir grow his status by dropping his Macaroni Tony EP in March and performing at Made in America Festival. With Who’s Watching the Kids 2 on the way, Mir is hoping to have all eyes on him.
