Before the 2019 XXL Freshman class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th Spot voting will launch on March 25, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2019 XXL Freshman cover.

Kodie Shane, 20, is still somewhat of a rookie, but she has plenty of in-game experience. The Atlanta native has been making music since the age of 14 and put out her debut release, 2060, in 2016 featuring songs “Way Up” featuring Lil Uzi Vert and “Sad” with Lil Yachty—both songs have over 1 million streams on SoundCloud. Shortly after the follow-up project, Little Rocket, was released a couple months later, she joined Yachty’s Sailing Team collective and appeared on the group’s compilation album.

Epic Records saw the potential in the dual threat artist—Kodie raps and sings—and scooped her up the same year. She kept the momentum going on projects Zero Gravity (2016), Big Trouble Little Jupiter (2017), Back From the Future (2017) and Young Heartthrob (2018), which featured the popular Trippie Redd collab “Love & Drugs II.” With two headlining tours currently under her belt, she put out her most recent offering, Stay Tuned, in March.
