Kid Buu’s Pitch for 2019 XXL Freshman

Before the 2019 XXL Freshman class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th Spot voting will launch on March 25, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2019 XXL Freshman cover.

Despite Kid Buu's name being clouded by controversy over the last year, his music is still on the upswing with streams increasing on the daily. In hopes to put his past behind him, the Miami native has previously addressed the child abuse charges on his record, stemming from a 2008 arrest, which he states is labeled as child abuse with no harm. Buu, 30, admits he decided to plead guilty for "my own convenience to move on with life." Moving on includes pushing through with a rap career featuring songs "Death 2 SoundCloud" and "Double Up"—both sit at 5 million streams and nearly 2 million streams on Spotify, respectively.

Aside from his music, which finds him bouncing between SoundCloud rapper vibes and Auto-Tune-laced raps, Kid Buu's appeal also comes in the form of cloning claims. Last year, he sent the internet into a frenzy when he appeared on Instagram live with his purported clone. Then his relationship with Blac Chyna grabbed countless headlines in 2018 and into this year. From trips to Iceland to their eventual breakup, which seemed to end in a fight and paramedics being called, Buu became popular gossip fodder. While he denied ever laying a hand on Chyna, Buu continued to grab headlines, including for his most recent project, Blind for Love 2, the sequel to his 2018 effort. The six-track release finds Buu in his feelings on the guitar-tinged "I Wish" and looking for the real on the Pisano and Medium-produced "Fake Energy."
