Asian Doll’s Pitch for 2019 XXL Freshman

Before the 2019 XXL Freshman class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th Spot voting will launch on March 25, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2019 XXL Freshman cover.

With many of the game's rising female rappers attaching the word "Doll" to their name, Dallas native Asian Doll is out to prove she's the hardest of them all. The self-proclaimed Queen of the Teens has been putting in work consistently over the years, which has resulted in not only a label deal with Gucci Mane's 1017 Eskimo Records in 2018, but a dedicated legion of supporters too. She's already seven projects in—Da Rise of Barbie Doll Gang Empire (2015), Drippin in Glo (2016), Project Princess Vol. 1 (2016), Outtaspace (2017), Kill Bill, Vol. 1 (2017), Doll Szn and So Icy Princess (2018)—and just getting started.

Whether it's freestyling or the self-described "gangstaness" heard in her rhymes, Asian Doll doesn't hold back. Her get-money anthem “Gucci,” remix of Playboi Carti’s “Lame Niggaz” (which sits at over 2 million streams on Spotify), TheLabCook-produced “Talk” and latest banger "Grandson" are evidence she's super nice with the pen. This Doll doesn't need anyone to write her rhymes.

As she continues to hit the festival circuit this year, performing both new and unreleased material, Asian Doll, 22, is focused on being a role model for young Black women who attend her shows and watch her from afar. "All the girls that's in the hood, that's lost, who don't know how to get out or don't know the way, I'm the example," Asian Doll says. "I'm showing the way, I'm leading the way."
