Kendrick Lamar has been everywhere this year, often literally: in May, the Compton native visited the California State Senate, where he was the recipient of the state's 35th Generational Icon Award for his creative work and for his contributions to schools and community centers in his hometown. He also enjoyed his greatest measure of commercial success, joining Taylor Swift on the remix of her song "Bad Blood," which shot to #1 in the country thanks to its massive, star-studded video. But for all the extracurricular activities, most of Kendrick's accolades in 2015 have stemmed from his sophomore album, March's To Pimp a Butterfly. The dense, sprawling LP attempts to fuse jazz, P-funk, G-funk and more as part of a treatise on the Black experience in America. Today (Oct. 28) he drops the video for "These Walls," which takes aim at an all-too-common specter over that experience: imprisonment. The song features Bilal, Anna Wise and Thundercat; the clip, complete with a cameo by Terry Crews, can be streamed above. Kendrick is currently on tour.
