Update: Jury Gets Case, Deliberating in Lil Boosie Murder Trial

The jury in the Lil Boosie murder trial received the case and started deliberations on Friday afternoon (May 11). According to WAFB 9 News in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the jury received the case at roughly 2:30 p.m. CST after being given final instructions by the judge.

District Attorney Hillar Moore told the jury that one of the following verdicts can be reached for Boosie, real name Torrance Hatch: Guilty of first-degree murder, guilty of second-degree murder, guilty of manslaughter or not guilty.

Although the death penalty is not an option for this trial, a conviction on first or second-degree murder charges would signal life in prison for Boosie.

Earlier in the day on Friday, the prosecution gave its closing statement, followed by the defense and then the prosecutors were given a chance to address the jury one last time.

The previous day in court included prosecutors calling up two witnesses to take the stand. Carvis “Donkey” Webb, Boosie’s first cousin and Rochelle Wagner, Boyd’s sister and mother of Boosie’s child. According to WAFB 9 News in Baton Rouge, Webb testified that he was in Atlanta at the time of the murder, while Wagner claimed that she didn’t know anything about a homicide and although Boyd and Boosie weren’t friends, they weren’t enemies. In the trial’s six days prior to Friday, the prosecutors called up a total of 27 witnesses.

The defense, meanwhile, didn’t call a witness to the stand on Thursday (May 10).

Prosecutors continue to contend that Hatch, 29, hired Michael “Marlo Mike” Louding, then-17, now 19, to kill Terry Boyd in October 2009. The courtroom is filled to capacity and there's a large crowd gathered outside the courtroom as well.—Jakinder Singh
