U-God, one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, has filed a lawsuit against the Wu Music Group seeking $170,000 in unpaid royalties, performance fees and recording advances. The suit, filed recently in U.S. District Court in New York, alleges several instances of breach of contract by Wu management. The filing outlines several agreements that the MC entered into, including the group’s recording contracts with BMG and Bodog Entertainment, and contracts for the Rock The Bells and European Wu-Tang tours. U-God claims that he has not received payment in connection with any of these contracts and seeks a minimum of $170,000 in damages. This new legal battle comes after several Wu members, most notably Ghostface and Raekwon, have publicly complained about financial and creative disagreements within the crew. While the RZA has denied any widespread problems and insists that the issues have been settled behind the scenes, U-God’s suit seems to contradict his side of the story.
