Sad news for the hip-hop world today; Big Bank Hank, one of the founding members of the Sugar Hill Gang, has passed away this morning at the age of 57. Hank, born Henry Jackson, had been suffering from cancer. He died in the NYC area around 2 a.m this morning. His group mates, Wonder Mike and Master Gee told TMZ: "So sad to hear of our brother's passing. Rest in peace Big Bank."

The Sugar Hill Gang are most famous for their single "Rapper's Delight," which is generally considered one of the most culturally significant songs in hip-hop history, introducing hip-hop to the United States, and the entire world. Released in 1979, the song was famously recorded in one take, an amazing fact when considering the full version is nearly 15 minutes long.

Rest in peace Big Bank Hank. XXL sends out our condolences to Hank's family and friends during this difficult time.
