After announcing the pushback of his sophomore album Careless World: Rise of the Last King, Young Money MC Tyga placates his anxious fans by dropping another mixtape, #BitchImTheShit. The latest offering serves as T-Raww’s third project of the year, following Well Done 2 and Black Thoughts 2. Though previous mixtapes showed a little more artistic growth and promise for his long-awaited album than this most recent, it still finds the Cali native in his element.

Opening the project, “Bitch I’m the Shit” sets the tone for the majority of the experience, with the rapper delivering bars about topics (money and girls) that remain consistent on the majority of the tape. However, Tyga’s flow on “In This Thang” finally livens up the project, showing some diversity in his sound. The YMCMB spitter later snaps on his record “Get Gnarley,” a dope track that seems a little out of place surrounded by the majority of similar sounding records.

“Make It Nasty,” “Pop It,” and “Dancin 4 Dollas” serve as obligatory dance anthems. “Fuck With You” is a darker, somber break-up song about fame’s effect on his relationship. Here, Tyga finally opens up about a subject different from the usual surface level material he touches on throughout the rest of the tape. Bringing collaborators that include YG, Honey Cocaine, Juicy J and 2 Chainz to ride shotgun, Tyga has honed on his style, even if it sometimes singular.

#BitchImTheShit is not the “Rack City” MC’s best project, but still leaves fans anxiously anticipating his sophomore release, set to drop January 24, 2012. —Rachelle Jean-Louis
