Future, Amine, Melii and More: Bangers This Week
Rap is starting to really get into the flow of the new year. Gone are the songs of 2018—out with the old, in with the new. Some of hip-hop's biggest stars are dropping new music this week, as are all of your favorite up-and-comers. There's plenty of music out there, but XXL makes it all easier to keep track of in this week's round-up of bangers.
The wizard is coming. Future, who recently announced his upcoming album. The Wizrd, is going full steam ahead towards its Jan. 18 release date. The latest single is "Jumpin on a Jet," on which Future raps about just how international he is these days. The track is a nice sample of what's in store for The Wizrd, which quickly became one of the more anticipated new albums this year.
Former XXL Freshman Aminé is both creative in his own right and quick to celebrate other artists. This week, he put his own spin on Tierra Whack's track "Hungry Hippo," while shouting her out in the song's description on SoundCloud. He stretches out his singing chops and also raps about artists acting different after they've made it. Unlike them, Aminé plans to remain true to himself.
Melii, a recent The Break alum, has only seen her profile rise over the last few months, with her appearance on Meek Mill's "Wit the Shits (W.T.S)" off his critically-acclaimed Championships album. Her new song, "HML," is much different from that track, while fitting her just as well. She sings alongside A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie about desiring a new partner for a late-night rendezvous.
