Mr. Rager returns. As promised, after teasing the release only hours ago, today (April 12), Kid Cudi returns after a long absence to drop the new track "The Rage."

The new banger is off the original motion picture soundtrack for the film Rampage starring The Rock, which debuts in theaters nationwide Friday (April 13). Cudi's triumphant return features the Ohio rapper spitting over a piano and snare drum-laden track. The song finds him powering forward with descriptive lines over a Smashing Pumpkins sample of "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" ("Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage").

"Hands up, we back in, born in the rage/Untamed, break free, beast out of the cage," he raps. "Sky rainin' down flames, it's a war on the heavens/A beautiful scene in the night behind light/And much like that, when I'm dreamin', I'm in flight/Coast out of sight, though I'm feelin' I'm not right/And Hell's got one hell of a grip, no shit/Your boy best not slip."

Cudder's back.

Cudi has been avoiding the spotlight over the last year plus, since checking into rehab in 2016, citing he was not at peace with himself. "I haven't been since you've known me. If I didn't come here, I would've done something to myself," he announced to fans at the time via Facebook. "I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions everyday of my life. Theres a ragin violent storm inside of my heart at all times. Idk what peace feels like. Idk how to relax. My anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it. I cant make new friends because of it. I don't trust anyone because of it and Im tired of being held back in my life. I deserve to have peace."

He still put out his Passion, Pain and Demon Slayin album that December and spent the latter part of last year on tour.

Hopefully we hear more from Cudi in 2018.
