Saba Remixes Jamila Woods’ “Emerald Street”

Jamila Woods' HEAVN album is one of the most refreshing projects of the year. The soulful single "Emerald Street" featured fellow Chicago native Saba on the original version, which was produced by Peter Cottontale.

Today (Aug. 31), Saba remixes the original version of "Emerald Street" by adding a bit more bounce to the production and a new verse. "Before Pro Tools and the Ableton, Granny worried how to keep the cable on," he raps in the beginning of his new verse.

Woods is stellar, starting the record off by singing, "I be in my nightgown, chicken wings ready/If you bring the mild sauce, we can go steadyYou can have the coleslaw, we can share the one straw/Sit outside on my block."

The remix is the second new release from Saba this month. He previously dropped his new single "There You Go." The newly-turned 23-year-old Chicago rapper/producer has seen his star power rise since releasing his excellent 2016 Bucket List Project.

In honor of the fallen friend and family member John Walt a.k.a. DinnerWithJohn, Saba announced John Walt Day, a concert benefiting Chicago youth that will take place on Nov. 25 at House of Blues. Along with the concert, John Walt Day will mark the launch of the John Walt Foundation, which aims to work with and provide opportunities and funds for young Chicago artists.
