Kaytranada Drops ‘0.001%’ Mixtape

Kaytranada dropped the buttery smooth ‘0.001%’ mixtape today (Sept. 22) in celebration of earning the 2016 Polaris Music Prize, Canada's top music honor. The continuous 90-minute stream was uploaded on Soundcloud in the wee hours of the morning and with today being the first day of fall, the smooth production of this joint can definitely serve as sounds of the crisp new season. Much like Kaytra's signature work, the new tape pulls from all genres: electronic, reggae, jazz, afrobeat and rap.

The Haitian-born, Montreal-residing producer was awarded the Polaris earlier this month for his breakout success with his major label debut 99.9%. The producer's album featured plenty of rappers; 2016 XXL Freshman Anderson .Paak, 2015 XXL Freshman GoldLink, Phonte, Vic Mensa and BADBADNOTGOOD just to name a few. The 15-track project peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's US Dance/Electronic Albums chart and No. 24 on Billboard's Canadian Albums chart.

2016 really has been Kaytra's year. The genre-blender has been on the come-up for a while, dropping popular remixes on Soundcloud since 2010 under the moniker Kaytradamus. He started bringing his talents to the hip-hop realm in 2014 with woozy bangers like Mobb Deep's "My Block" GoldLink's "Sober Thoughts", Vic Mensa's "Wimme Nah." Ever since his sound caught on, he's become one of the most sought-after new-age beat makers in the game.

When he was on a promo run for 99.9% back in May, Kaytra said in an interview that he was working on a mixtape of album leftovers aptly titled 0.01%. Whether this new tape, titled an even-smaller percentage, is the project Kaytra promised still remains to be seen. But, then again, does it really matter? Vibe out with 0.001% above.
