Yasiin Bey, f.k.a. Mos Def, is back with more laid back rhymes of social injustice courtesy of his newly formed duo Dec 99th with artist Ferrari Sheppard. The duo dropped "HYMN" today (Aug. 1) via TIDAL and the streaming service has made the new song available to members and non-members alike.

"This what death can't kill: life," repeats Bey over a somber and steady bass line.

Its been eight months since Yasiin said he was retiring from the rap game after dropping one final album this year. The shapeshifter made this announcement by way of a 10-minute audio clip of spoken word over the phone shortly after he was detained in South Africa for using the wrong passport.

"Related but not directly related to this," explained Bey after spitting his rap about his arrest. "I’m retiring from the music recording industry as it is currently assembled today. And also from Hollywood, effectively immediately. I will be releasing my final album this year and that’s that."

Since this announcement, Bey has dropped "N.A.W." and "Local Time" both under Dec 99th.

Earlier this month, the Brooklyn-born wordsmith appeared for a live performance with BadBadNotGood in Cape Town, South Africa, giving the fans a live rendition of "Arcade."
