With newer rappers like Dreezy and Lil Yachty dropping projects recently, it can be easy to forget that De La Soul is set to release their new project And the Anonymous Nobody in the near future. The legendary rap crew gives us a nice reminder with "Royalty Capes," a jazzy new single from their upcoming album.

Featuring an ethereal spoken-word poem in the place of a hook, "Royalty Capes" sees the super-group reflect on their status as legends in the rap game – even if they aren't the first names that come to mind when you hear the words "rap royalty." De La Soul used their official Facebook page to describe the process of making the new song.

"'Royalty Capes,' produced by Dave aka Plug Too and mixed by Bob Power, is one of the first songs recorded during early jam sessions for And the Anonymous Nobody," the post reads. "Recording started at The Bomb Shelter and perfected at historic Vox Studios in LA with an unorthodox 9 bar loop of saxophone slowed down and reconstituted for Pos and Dave. It was one of those rare moments where he Dave wrote his part first. Dave said it just sounded like royalty walking in and he put his rhymes down and Pos followed his lead."

Fans can see how the rest of And the Anonymous Nobody comes together when De La Soul drops the project on Aug. 26. Keep it locked with XXL for more updates!
