If you having a conversation about the iconic songs in hip-hop, it is a certainty that Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth's "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" will be included in such a discussion. It's hard not to feel good when you hear those familiar horns that Pete Rock sampled from a Tom Scott cover of "Today" by Jefferson Airplane. The song is near and dear to so many people that you gotta come correct if you dare reinterpret it.

Over the years, many have tried their hand at it. Mr. Cheeks went as far as to recruit Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth for his version "Reminisce '03." On the other hand, Lupe Fiasco caught the ire of the Soul Brother when used the sample on "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)." The latest MC to tackle the classic is Wale with his Phil Ade assisted "Reminisce."

Wale's lyrics are far from the commentary that C.L. Smooth delivered years ago as the D.C. native keeps things very lighthearted. Wale rhymes about the ladies he's able to attract, his prowess as a rapper and some more boasts about his spot in the game. In his second verse, the "Chillin" MC even starts laughing in the middle of delivering lines likes "I turn the new Jordans to Ron Harpers."

It does not appear that "Reminisce" is intended for Wale's upcoming album Shine. The Maybach Music Group artist has been dropping tracks off the LP as of late though with "Her Wave" and the lead single "My PYT."
