From Ja Rule to R. Kelly, artists have long used polite discretion as a source for musical inspiration, and iLoveMakonnen adds to the pool with his new track "Keep It Low." In today's age of social media sharing, keeping things on the DL is all the more difficult, which is why Makonnen asks his bedmate to exercise secrecy .

Produced by Su$h! CEEJ, the track is a hypnotic swirl of synths and snares, with Makonnen deploying a sedated flow with pauses and breaks throughout. Kicking things off, he raps, "Now lately, you’ve been talking / About the way we creep / And lately, I’ve been stalking / You and your tweets / Wonder if you talking 'bout us / To your little friends / If you the reason why / This girl is all in my mentions."

Makonnen has been releasing music at a dizzying clip as of late, following up March's Drink More Water 6 by announcing a joint mixtape with Lil Yachty, dropping a track with Lil B and joining Yachty and Skippa Da Flippa on "Loaded Up" earlier this week. The increase in drops may have something to do with Makonnen parting ways with OVO Sound, which while rumored, was confirmed to XXL in a statement last month.

Speaking with XXL, Makonnen said of his current sound and head space, "I’m just trying to be myself, get back to myself and do stuff that I feel like is connecting with me and the people I see out here that’s living in real life. I just go out and travel and observe and subconsciously write songs and when I get to the studio I freestyle it out over beats. It’s all about shit I observe for however long. That’s just really how I do it. Musically I’m just whatever the world is right now. I’m just trying to be a part of the world, being in the world."
