Maxo Kream had a significant breakthrough last year on the strength of his Maxo 187 mixtape. The project helped solidify Maxo as one of the emerging new talents in Houston, which is bubbling up with some new names ready to make an impact on the national level. Maxo has stood out with his unique "post-Screw" style, which is on full display on his new track "Big Worm."

The song sees Maxo Kream rhyming over a slightly altered version of grime legend Wiley's "Morgue" instrumental. The Houston rapper makes copious references to the movie Friday, which makes sense since this track is named after one of the film's characters.

"I was at the crib watching Friday, and me and my n---as started talking about Big Worm being the plug, so I put the beat on and we started freestyling," Maxo told The FADER about the record. "Friday’s one of my favorite movies. It came out in ’96 when I was 6 years old and we had it on bootleg. At first it was a comedy, I was just watching like it’s a weed movie, but as you get older and start peeping it you realize it’s more than just comedy shit."

If "Big Worm" is any indication, Maxo Kream has some interesting things lined up for 2016. The Quiccstrikes rapper will be extending his grime connection tonight (March 25) as he performs alongside Grime legend D Double E and producer Darq E Freaker at the Palisades in Brooklyn.
