We wouldn't go so far as to call it a trope, but there's an interesting history of rappers putting their kids in the booth. From Bamboo Patton's brief guest spot on Big Boi's Speakerboxxx to the title track on the Reks album Grey Hairs, putting toddlers on the microphone injects some humanity into otherwise menacing albums, and gives context for the rapper as part of a family, as part of a community. (And of course, legends like Common and Cam'ron have collaborated with their fathers and mothers, respectively.) Today (Dec. 9), Consequence continues in that tradition, putting his 4-year-old son, Caiden on his new single "That Dude."
