Earl Sweathshirt must have been feeling generous today as he uploaded a short collection of songs he had in the stash on his YouTube page. Titled "Solace" and described only as "music from when I hit the bottom and found something," Earl delivers mellow raps over spacy beats. "Solace" isn't a complete surprise, the Odd Future MC alluded to the project during an interview with NPR while at SXSW last month and said it was dedicated to his mother. "I'm sittin' on one, though," said Earl. "We set up a studio in my house and I did a little project real, real fast. It's called "Solace." It's more for my mom...If I got some shit that my mom likes, then I'm straight. I beat the case (laughs)."

Earl and his mother have an interesting dynamic. Back in 2011, just as Odd Future was about to blow up, Earl's mother, Cheryl Harris, a law professor at UCLA, sent her son to a school in Samoa. Worried about his excessive marijuana use and trouble in school, Ms. Harris decided that this was best for her child. "He was really very clearly going through a rough patch emotionally," she told The New York Times in 2012. "[It was] very evident that he was struggling." Once Earl returned, he fell right back in line with his Odd Future clique and it appears that there are no hard feelings felt towards his mother.
