With the release of his highly anticipated forthcoming LP, To Pimp A Butterfly dropping in less than two weeks, Kendrick Lamar adds to the anticipation by leaking the latest single, "King Kunta." K. Dot continues to keep away from the typical commercial radio tunes, imploring a funk-infused instrumental which sounds Parliament-esque. The title comes from the name of the main character in the slave epic, Roots, which Kendrick acknowledges with the line, "everybody want to take the legs off him, Kunta, black man taking no losses." The wildly successful Cali rapper is clearly not conforming to industry standards, and instead making music that he likes to make and thinks needs to be heard.

As we creep closer to the recently announced March 23 release date, more and more information is slowly coming out about the follow up to Lamar's platinum selling major label debut, good kid m.A.A.d city. The Compton MC has already dropped two well-received singles from the album, including the Grammy-winning track "i" and "Blacker The Berry".

Yesterday, the track list for the LP leaked online giving even more insight into the project which will have 16 tracks and no features. Just two days prior he unveiled cover art for the project which features several Black teens mobbing on the White House lawn. According to FADER, the powerful image was conceived by Kendrick and manager Dave Free, and shot by French photographer Denis Rouvre. The striking black-and-white appears to represent the vulnerability of our political system. You can pre-order the project, here.
