Reese LaFlare sees a lot of himself in Lil Uzi Vert.

On Wednesday (Nov. 20), Reese stopped by L.A. radio station Power 106 to promote his new album, Final Fantasy. Amid talks of the project with Power 106's DJ Felli Fel, the topic turned to a prior convo Felli and Reese had off-air where Reese said that he actually discovered the Philly rhymer.

"Ain't no kinda, I did [discover Lil Uzi Vert]," Reese told Felli. "All the kids, man, on the internet—the internet is a very powerful thing. Uzi hit me up years ago. He was like 'Hey man, I love your music. Bruh, I'm about to be out of high school.' I'm like 'Alright, cool. Send me some music.' I listened. I'm like 'Damn, you fire. This little nigga hard!' He like me. He's like a little Philly version of me."

From there, he explained that he'd invited Uzi to drop in on the tour Reese was on with Wiz Khalifa, and that was when Uzi met his now label-heads, DJ Drama and Leighton "Lakeshow" Morrison. Reese later played Drama and Lakeshow the two songs he and Uzi had recorded together, solidifying the relationship between Uzi and Generation Now—the label Uzi unfortunately has had some major issues with in recent times.

After a clip of Reese discussing Uzi was shared to Instagram, the Atlanta rapper started getting backlash from fans for seemingly laying claim to Uzi's success. This prompted him to respond in the comments.

"Y’all be wilding in these comments," Reese said. "Uzi is my slime since way back and still is to this day. I have a talent for finding other talents and that’s that."
