Before YNW Melly rapped about “Murder on My Mind” and was subsequently charged with the murders of two of his friends this year, 19-year-old Texas rapper Tay-K, born Taymore McIntyre, jumped bail due to a capital murder charge and went on the run. He then told the whole world about it through his viral hit, “The Race.” XXL explores Tay-K's current legal situation and his resulting fate.

Tay-K is currently behind bars in Tarrant County Jail and went to trial this week for the capital murder charge, making him the last of seven defendants in the case to stand trial. Ultimately, a jury found Tay-K guilty of murder in the death of 21-year-old Ethan Walker in addition to a guilty verdict for aggravated robbery in connection with the robbery and shooting of Zachary Beloate, who survived.

The rhymer had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery by threats, but not guilty to the capital murder charge. He is also facing charges for two separate crimes that occurred while he was on the lam.

While he's seen success with the art-imitating-life track "The Race," the rapper hasn't had the chance to experience any of his newfound fame. He's been behind bars since 2017, after he was apprehended by police for going on the run to escape the capital murder charge against him, which stems from the botched home invasion the then-16-year-old Tay-K was part of in 2016.

On July 26, 2016, Tay-K, and six accomplices allegedly planned to rob 19-year-old Zachary Beloate. Beloate lived in a Mansfield, Texas home with Ethan Walker, the man who ultimately died when the robbery went wrong. Tay-K was not the one who shot the fatal bullet, however.

Now Tay-K’s trial in connection to the death of Ethan Walker will continue to determine sentencing for the murder conviction and three aggravated robbery convictions. Tay-K faces five to 99 years or life in prison on each conviction.
