XXXTentacion’s ’17’ Wins Top R&B Album at 2019 Billboard Music Awards
On Wednesday night (May 1), the late rapper's 2017 album, 17, won the 2019 Billboard Music Award for Top R&B Album. The slain rapper, who was shot and killed in Deerfield Beach, Fla. last year, racked up at least 10 nominations in categories like Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist and Top R&B Male Artist.
XXXTentacion's latest award wasn't broadcasted during the nationally televised event, however the rapper's mother still embraced her son's latest win in an Instagram story. "#17Forever #LLJ," Cleo wrote on top of her son's winning announcement.
This isn't the only award XXXTentacion has won since he passed away. On Oct. 7, 2018, X's mother Cleopatra Bernard, X's former manager Solomon Sounds and the late rapper's lawyer Bob Celestin accepted the award for Best New Hip-Hop Artist on his behalf at the 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
Then, two days later, X's 17 album won him another posthumous trophy at the 2018 American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Album. Bernard decided to accept the award on her son's behalf by herself.
"I am honored to accept this award on the behalf of my son," Bernard said in her speech. "I would like to thank the AMAs, his fans and to everyone who made this possible. Thank you guys, I appreciate it."
Congratulations to XXXTentacion's family.
