R. Kelly's legal woes aren't getting any better, and his former lawyer may have made matters worse for the embattled singer. In an interview the Chicago Sun-Times published Thursday (March 7), Ed Genson, who is a lawyer who represented the singer during his child pornography case from 2002 to 2008, said that he believes his client was guilty. Genson said that he even helped Kelly suppress his sexual urges in the past.

“He was guilty as hell!” Genson told the publication. “I don’t think he’s done anything inappropriate for years. I’ll tell you a secret: I had him go to a doctor to get shots, libido-killing shots. That’s why he didn’t get arrested for anything else.”

“I didn’t facilitate him. He had already done what he’d done,” Genson continued. “I did facilitate him in the sense I kept him out of trouble for 10 years. I was vetting his records. I listened to them, which ones would make a judge mad.”

Genson, who is now 77 and has diagnosed with terminal bile duct cancer, said that he encouraged Kelly to change the lyrics of an earlier version of "Ignition," which is one of the singer's biggest singles. Kelly's former lawyer revealed that the song was originally about a high school instructor teaching people how to drive. Genson urged Kelly to switch up the subject matter to help him avoid angering the judge.

“It’s a song related to a guy driving around in a car with his girlfriend," Genson said. "It was originally a high school instructor in a class teaching people how to drive a car. I changed the words.”

Genson also claimed that Kelly isn't “a very bright person” and could have become more reckless after beating his case in Florida. He also asserts that Kelly may have tampered with the jury for his upcoming trial with his recent CBS interview with Gayle King.
